Get A Grip High School Media Teams

Drive-Ride Project

Fall 2011

Students around the state are facing many of the same challenges. With so many demands it's easy to forget some of the fundamental decisions that can make or break your high school experience.

Driving offers a lot of freedom but also requires responsibility and accountability.

What goes on while you're driving with your friends?
Do you have rules in your car?

Tell us what issues you're dealing with in the car and
tell your classmates what you'd like them to know by
creating powerful and positive web messages.

Is alcohol-impaired driving an issue? How do people feel about it? What could you do to prevent people from
drinking and driving?

See the project steps on the right for details.

Project Steps

  1. Read through the Get A Grip Blog to become familiar with Get A Grip traffic safety topics.

  2. Recruit! Find friends and peers who share your feelings on these issues and form a 2011 fall team.

  3. Ask your parents and high school principal for approval to participate in the media project.

  4. Email Get A Grip for information about the sign-up process.

  5. Use those problem-solving and critical thinking skills to put together an action plan. What is your desired outcome and how do you encourage others to change their attitudes and behaviors?

  6. Fine tune your media skills by working with Get A Grip staff to develop online messages for the Get A Grip Blog during Sept - Nov. Use images and text to tell the story about driving and riding in your community.

  7. Promote the blog to friends and peers. Message Pens!

  8. Evaluation. Evaluation cards will be provided for peer feedback.
