Principles

Community

A dictionary may define community as people with common interests living in a particular area. Today technology allows us to be part of physical and virtual communities. Being part of a community gives us a sense of belonging, but should also give us a sense of responsibility. Making good choices and acting in a positive way helps build a healthy community.

Respect

We've all heard it before; "treat others the way you want to be treated." The way we interact with our parents, teachers, friends, and other people not only impacts our future but also reflects who we are. Respect is especially important when it comes to interacting with people different from us. We all know people with beliefs and views that differ from our own. Even if we may not agree with them, respecting those differences is what matters.

Choices

Everyday we are faced with hundreds of choices. Whether we realize it or not each choice we make influences what happens to us later that day, week, month, or even year. Some choices may be simple like what to eat, what to do this weekend, or when to study. Other choices may affect the rest of our lives.

Accountability

Every decision we make has a consequence. And although many decisions may not affect other people, there's no doubt that they affect us. High school and college are times to discover who we are. These are also times to take responsibility for what we do. We're expected to face the consequences of our actions. We're accountable to others but mainly accountable to ourselves.

Networking

Making connections with the people around you and maintaining those relationships are key ingredients in networking. Use your skills to help out the people in your network. It's likely that the favor will be returned someday, possibly when you need it the most.

Working in Groups

To create an environment that encourages productivity and excellence, motivate with sense of purpose, recognize hard work, celebrate success, and challenge growth and achievement.

You Decide

An important choice is whether or not to drink. Drinking is a lifestyle behavior. Every choice you make affects your future and who you are. Only you can decide what to do or what not to do.

Leadership

When you take on a leadership role you automatically put yourself in the spotlight. Many people will be watching what you do, and those actions will influence what they do.
