Where
do the numbers come from?
Colleges and universities participating in the Iowa Social Norms Project
administer the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey or the Iowa Social Norms Project
Alcohol Survey in order to obtain statistical data about the drinking
behaviors and attitudes of students on their particular campus. The surveys
are reliable and valid instruments to measure the effectiveness of campus-based
prevention programs. The Core Institute provides an executive summary
and key findings for each institution as well as a cross-tabulation report
that college officials use to determine their social norms campaign message.
Because it is used on numerous campuses, data from the Core Alcohol and
Drug Survey can be aggregated and direct comparisons can be made between
an institution and the aggregated totals.
The Iowa Social Norms Project
(ISNP) Alcohol Survey was developed by the Iowa Social Norms Project staff
to obtain specific information about alcohol behaviors and perceptions.
The survey will be administered by all participating colleges and universities.
Data from the ISNP Alcohol Survey will be aggregated and comparisons will
be made between an institution and the aggregated total.
