SMART Goals

Setting a goal is a lot more than simply saying what you'd like to accomplish. To set a goal that is going to work takes a little more time and thought.

A goal needs to be SPECIFIC. If a goal does not specifically state what you want to accomplish, you are destined to fail right from the start. Take the following example: "My goal is to run everyday." This sounds like a good goal, but it's not specific enough. If the goal is just to run everyday, then simply running across the street could fulfill it. Make your goals specific.

Next, a goal must be MEASURABLE. If a goal isn't measurable, there is no way to know if you've achieved it or not. For example, your goal might be to become a better person. Tha's a great idea, but it's not a SMART goal. You can basically say you've achieved it whenever you want to because there is not a way to measure it. It's not an effective goal.

A goal must be ATTAINABLE. An unrealistic goal is likely to fail. Your goal may be to become a famous rock star or to play in the NFL. But if you cannot sing a note or have no athletic talent whatsoever, it's not realistic. It's great to dream big, but there is a limit. Just remember to set goals that you can achieve.

On the other hand, don't set goals that are too easy to achieve either. RISK is another important criterion for goal setting. If, for example, your current GPA is a 3.00, then setting a goal to get a 2.5 next semester isn't a risk. You want to set a goal that is a challenge.

Finally, the last important part of setting a goal is TIME FRAME. You need to put a time frame on your goal to prevent yourself from continually putting it off. Set a time limit that gives you plenty of time to achieve your goal, yet pushes you to keep at it. A deadline like "by May 31, 2010" leaves no doubt as to when you intend to complete your goal.

Hit Repeat

Once you have created your perfect playlist you cannot help but put it on repeat.

There is just something about those certain songs that really gets you going. The same should be said for the playlist you create for your life.

Once you find that certain group of people, that one club you can make a difference in, or something you are really good at, all you want to do is put it on repeat. Not only do you want to play it over and over, but you also want to share it with others.

Make a commitment to be successful!

Watch your finances and find low cost, no cost things to do. If you don’t want to drink when you party, find friends who don’t drink and create your own fun.

There is power in being a leader. If you choose to be a leader, you set the tone for your life and those who follow you. You have an amazing power as a leader that cannot be turned off. You cannot force other people to lead, but you can encourage people to find good leaders to follow.
