Often rapists know their victims nearly 85 percent of the time the perpetrator is not a stranger. On a campus, that figure rises to 90 percent. Most rapes or attempted rapes in college involve a boyfriend, ex-boyfriend, classmate, friend, acquaintance, or co-worker.
Sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes on campus. It is important to remember that sexual assault is a crime, and the victim is never to blame.
