How Are We Doing?

Share your feedback

Department of Public Safety staff welcome feedback from members of the community. DPS officers and staff appreciate kudos for a compassionate act or a job well done. Complaints are taken very seriously and viewed as opportunities to learn, correct problems, and improve our service to the community.

NOTE: These submission forms are not for general inquiries, suggestions, police reports, etc. Contact ISU DPS directly with questions (dpsinfo@iastate.edu, 515-294-4428).

Share kudos or compliments

Thank you for taking time to compliment one of our staff members. We take pride in providing the best services possible.

Your feedback will be shared with the staff member you’re recognizing and their supervisors. If you would like to be contacted, please check the appropriate box in the form.

File a complaint

ISU DPS takes complaints seriously. If you have a complaint, please fill out the form completely. We will follow-up with you once it is received.

Complaints about citations and arrests

Making a complaint is NOT a forum to challenge a citation or arrest. That must be done in a court of law, utilizing the court date given at the time of the arrest or citation.

How complaints are resolved

  • Complaint reviewed by the Professional Standards and Training Captain and assigned for follow-up
  • Investigation of the facts by the supervisor following up, which includes:
    • Interviews of complainant, identified witnesses, and employee involved
    • Review of related information, for example audio/video recordings and police reports
  • Completed investigation report reviewed by the appropriate captain and assistant chief
    • Reports for serious violations also reviewed by the Chief of Police
  • Internal disciplinary process implemented when appropriate
  • Findings of the complaint communicated in writing to complainant

Questions?

We try to respond to complaints in a timely manner. If a significant amount of time has passed and you have not heard about the status of your complaint, please call 515-294-4428 and ask to speak to a captain.
